Event Details

Due to traffic concerns, please arrive at 12:45 p.m.  Buses will be leaving the Library at 1:00 p.m.

This program is open to Adults and Families, any minors attending must be accompanied by an adult.
Each person riding the shuttle bus must register in advance with his/her own Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library Card. Registration begins July 24th and ends August 17th .
On this day millions of people across the United States will see nature’s most wondrous spectacle – a total Solar Eclipse of the Sun. It is a scene of unimaginable beauty; the Moon completely blocks the Sun, daytime becomes a deep twilight, and the Sun’s corona shimmers in the darkened sky. Experience a partial, yet still spectacular view of America’s first total solar eclipse since 1979. Take a shuttle bus with us to the beach near the Smith Point Beach Wilderness Center to view this event. A shuttle bus will be available to travel between the Library and Smith Point Beach from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
Please note the last bus leaving the library will depart at 2:15 and the last bus back from Smith Point Beach will depart at 3:30 pm. Special glasses provided by www.starnetlibraries.org will be given out for safe viewing while supplies last. Viewing the eclipse safely is of vital importance because observing the sun can cause serious and permanent damage to the eyes. Only patrons using the provided safety glasses will be admitted to this program.
For more information on viewing the eclipse safely please go to http://www.starnetlibraries.org/2017eclipse/eclipse-resource-center/event-planning/safety/
*Please note: this program is dependent on having clear skies to view the Eclipse.
*Parking for anyone registered to take the shuttle bus: Please park in the block of parking closest to Teacher’s Federal Credit Union building, diagonally south of the library. Other areas of parking could result in your car being towed.
